Drones attack world’s largest oil processing factory in Saudi Arabia

September 14, 2019

Abqaiq processing facility in Saudi Arabia, is described by Saudi Aramco as ‘largest crude oil stabilization plant in the world’. Abqaiq and Khurais were attacked by drones on 14 September, which sparked a huge fire at a processor crucial to global energy supplies. Ten drones were used in the attack, and they were launched from Yemen (Houthi movement claimed responsibility).

Smoke rose over the skyline and glowing flames were seen from a distance away – fires were put out several hours later. Both the facilities were shut down for repairs, which cut Saudi Arabia’s production by half and caused some destabilization of global financial markets.
