NTPC boiler accident, Unchahar (U.P)

According to the NTPC press release, on 1st November, there was an opening located at 20m height in the Unit no. 6 from which hot flue gases and steam escaped affecting the people working in the area. A double digit fatality count along with scores of affected workers present in the area had been reported, post-accident.

The Union power ministry has setup a high level committee to investigate into the cause of the accident and it is expected to make it findings public, within one month.

Transformer blast, Jaipur (Rajasthan)

A wedding procession bore the brunt of an exploding transformer in Shahpura, near Jaipur on 31st October. 14 people are feared dead from the blast that left 22 people injured when their wedding party was passing by the transformer in which the blast occurred. State power minister has ordered to setup a committee to determine the causes of the accident.

KRIBHCO fire, Surat (Gujarat)

According to Times of India, a minor fire had erupted at the KRIBHCO (Krishak Bharat Co-Op ltd.) plant at Hazira, Surat on Nov’ 3. Their general manager (HR), reported that incident occurred at the ammonia II plant when a 50mm thick pipe burst due to pressure, this pipeline was used for hydrogen and nitrogen gases. It was further reported that the fire was controlled with the help of automatic control units and fire engines as the situation was contained without allowing the fire to spread any further.
