At least 9 passengers onboard the Bikaner-Guwahati Express lost their lives and 50 others were injured when 12 bogies of the ill-fated train derailed in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. 250 passengers have been rescued from the wreckage. The Railways said there were fewer than usual passengers onboard due to Covid-induced restrictions. This is the first incident of passenger deaths in a train accident after a gap of nearly 34 months.
