EHS compliance is often afflicted by such constraints. In human terms, time and monetary feasibility rule the day and more often than not, safety can occupy the passenger seat. The driver in this analogy is engineering and manufacturing technology, however safety should always be the navigator.

Technology adoption rate and usage are driven by inherent behaviours and biases that limit its potential. Simply, mandating usage of a technology or software tool doesn’t understand or eliminate these biases or behavioural hurdles. A well thought and researched user-journey towards nudging them into exploring a “better tool” has to be conceived and delivered.

Managing hazardous materials is a challenging task for any manufacturing or a construction organization since controlling these products is highly regulated and involves greater liabilities throughout their lifecycle till they are part of the inventory of the facility. A greater care is required in storage, handling, use and disposition of these products.

Over 80% of India’s working population is part of the unorganised sector of which Agriculture is the main occupation in India giving employment to about 52% of the people. Less than 10% of Indian population are working in organised sector. Occupational health in India has still to compete with Primary & Curative health care services.

In developing countries the workers most exposed to occupational risks are those employed in agriculture, chemical and manufacturing. Quite apart from this poor equipment, heavy workload and even poisoning due to pesticide’s and organic dusts take their heavy toll on workers, health and safety.
